• Routine screening during pregnancy

• Sickle cell disease – inherited blood disorder causing red cells to become sickle shaped, these cells can block small blood vessels resulting in damage to those areas – this is what causes the complications of sickle cell disease

Data gathering

• Number of pregnancies – outcomes of previous ones

• Previous screening, partner previous screening

• FH – sickle cell disease or trait

• DH

• SH – alcohol, smoking, support, job

CM

• Followup – after screening
