Bilirubin

Raised bilirubin with other normal LFTs

• Causes
  • Gilbert’s syndrome (affects 5% of the population and is benign)
  • Haemolysis
• Management
  • Repeat LFTs, FBC, Reticulocytes – if all normal – provide Gilberts patient information leaflet

Jaundice (bilirubin >40) with abnormal LFTs

• Urgent USS abdomen/liver

and/or

• 2 week referral to secondary care or admission
