Clinical management

  • Explanation
    • Half of men over 50, starts earlier and usually takes 15-25 years to go bald from first signs (although can be quicker). Treatments are available but thought of as trying to slow the process rather than reversing it – not available on NHS
  • Treatment
    • Medications – minoxidil solution (Regaine), Finasteride 1mg OD – 6-12 months, lifelong
    • Non drug treatments – hairpieces, surgical hair transplant
