Clinical management
- Explanation
- Small operation to cut the tube that takes sperm from the testes to the penis so sperm is unable to get into semen that is ejaculated
- Can be done under local anaesthetic
- Failure rate is 1/2000
- Tenderness and bruising afterwards, can return to work within days
- Need to use contraception until semen samples provided are clear of sperm (8 weeks after op, two samples 3 weeks apart)
- Follow-up/safety net
