Data gathering

  • Red flags – acute onset, recent antibiotics (ciprofloxacin), numbness
  • Others – heel pain, lump, worse in the mornings
  • Examine – heel bony spur, stiff dorsiflexion, plantar fascia insertion NOT tender

  • Explanation
    • irritation of the tendon that connects calf muscle to heel bone
    • often due to overuse
  • Treatment
    • RICE
    • Orthotics
    • Exercises – tip toes
  • Followup / Safety-net
    • Physio if not improving
